The Book Cow is proud to be helping local Canberra author and illustrator Tania McCartney launch her latest book - Plume: World Explorer.
A short video message from Tania when she dropped by the Book Cow to sign some of the books.
Plume is not your typical Antarctic penguin. Sporting a bright yellow plume on the top of his head.
Plume is bored of black and white, of shuffling around and snoozing on icebergs. He much prefers to cook, read, knit and sky dive. He craves colour, adventure, excitement!
He wants to seize the world he’s discovered in the books of his fantastical, glacier library (the largest in the Southern Hemisphere).
Plume's great hope is to grow the hearts and minds of his penguin friends. Through his travels, children will engage with themes such as friendship, acceptance, understanding and the wellbeing of our planet.
Plume is truly a book series for our times.
Tania is a local Canberra based experienced magazine and book editor, independent publisher, features writer and columnist. She has over 30 years’ experience in magazines and publishing and 15 years' experience in book layout, cover and internals design, typography and typesetting.
She currently has around 60 books in print or in production, the majority of them children's books, with a focus on picture books.
One of Tania’s greatest passions is picture books and visual literacy. She has informally studied and worked in visual narrative for fifteen years, speaking to schools and institutions, and recently lecturing for the National Library of Korea.
She has a deep love of juvenile literacy and has been an ambassador, consultant, friend and role model for several institutions, including the National Year of Reading (2012), Libraries ACT, Australia Reads, The Reading Hour and the ACT Chief Minister's Reading Challenge.
